The island of Cabessut in Cahors, a beautiful green oasis on the banks of the River Lot, is the setting for the annual summer event “A l’assaut de l’île” (Storming the Island). This initiative launched by the city and local associations features a wide range of daily pirate-themed activities for families and children.

Inspired by this concept, the city’s mayor came up with the idea of creating a fun attraction on the island – a unique play area reflecting this theme and the local architecture.

Proludic proposed a custom large-scale Rainforest Tower in a design inspired by a pirate castle incorporating medieval components reminiscent of Cahors’ architecture. This modern and contemporary design appealed to the municipality as it offered children an immersive play area. The design also met requirements for safety and sustainability while helping to promote the fun activities available on the island.

The play area is a real highlight for young pirates, designed to stimulate their imagination and offer challenges tailored to each age category. The central structure, the Buccaneers’ Sanctuary, offers a wide range of activities encouraging children to climb, explore and hide. The many platforms and gangways provide strategic vantage points to survey the surrounding area, just like a pirate at sea. At the foot of the Buccaneers’ Sanctuary, springers in the shape of cannons and treasure chests continue the theme.

The trail in the central structure is designed for children of all ages. Younger children (3-5 years old) can have fun in complete safety thanks to specially designed play equipment such as the small slide, play panels and the gangway at the foot of the structure. Large tube slides and a rope tunnel encourage older kids (6-12 years old) to discover the joys of sliding and test their agility. In one of the towers, a large platform allows young pirates to keep a look out and watch their friends. Each corner of this area is designed to create an immersive experience where children can act out their own pirate stories.

The wood chip surface selected for its shock-absorbing and environmental properties ensures comfort and safety. This natural covering also integrates harmoniously in the green setting of the island.

The raft (pod swing) and the halyard (swing) located close to the large structure emphasise the maritime theme and invite children to hoist the sails like real sailors.

The play area blends perfectly in the natural environment of the island of Cabessut. It incorporates innovative play features and offers a refuge and a space for young pirates to make their own adventures!
